Tanqueray

Charles Tanqueray started a distillery in Bloomsbury, London, in 1830. After his death in 1868, his son Charles Waugh Tanqueray took over the management of the company. In 1898, Charles Tanqueray & Co merged with Gordon & Co to form Tanqueray Gordon & Co. Production was transferred from Bloomsbury to Gordon's company in Goswell Road. From then on, the gin was also exported to the United States. In 1922, Tanqueray Gordon & Co was acquired by the Scottish Distillers Company, which itself was taken over by Guinness in 1986 and merged into Diageo.

In the Second World War, the distillery in London was badly damaged. Only one distillation boiler was spared, the "Old Tom". A new distillery was built in Goswell Road, producing from 1957. Due to increasing demand, especially from the United States, Tanqueray's production was transferred to Laindon in Basildon (Essex) from 1989.

The base of the gin, the neutral distilled grain mash, was supplied by the large distillery at Cameron Bridge, Fife (Scotland), where several whiskeys of the Distillers Company were produced. Ten years later, the entire production, including Old Tom, was brought together at Cameron Bridge.

In 2021, Tanqueray launched a non-alcoholic alternative, the Tanqueray 0.0. With this, Tanqueray continues to develop high-quality drinks even after almost 200 years.
